About The HSA Competitive Program

Findlay Soccer Club is the competitive division of the Hancock Soccer Association.  Although travel soccer has existed in the Findlay area since the 1970s, the Findlay Soccer Club is a competitive travel program that began in 1996 when competitive "travel" teams were asked by their affiliated leagues to form a club from within which competitive teams could be fielded.  Since Hancock Soccer Association had the organizational structure, experience, and resources to assist in helping manage the day to day operations of this club, it was perceived to be the best resource for combining and managing the competitive travel program which were previously run as separate teams.

It was the general consensus of both the travel teams’ representatives and the HSA Board of Directors that the possibility of the two groups combining together under one central governing body would be a "win-win" situation for both.  HSA would be able to offer the travel teams their support and governing structure knowledge, fields, and equipment.  The travel teams’ coaches would be able to offer their experience and knowledge to aid in the development of recreational players and coaches.

In 1997 the travel teams officially became a part of HSA, known as the competitive division of Hancock Soccer Association and named Findlay Soccer Club - HSA. The competitive division operates as a "club" and is currently under the jurisdiction of HSA and the HSA Board of Directors.  The competitive teams would be affiliated with and registered through USYSA competitive leagues.  The HSA Constitution and Bylaws were amended to reflect the merger of the two formerly separate entities.  Several new Board positions were created as a result of the restructure.  The new HSA Constitution and Bylaws were unanimously approved by the HSA membership, and went into effect January 1, 1998.

The first open tryouts for Fall 1998 — Spring 1999 competitive teams aged U-9 and above was held in June of 1998 at Emory Adams Park.  There was a very large turnout of potential new competitive soccer players at these tryouts and several new competitive teams were formed.

Currently, the Findlay Soccer Club has approximately 250 youth playing on boys and girls teams in the U-9 through U-19 age groups.  These teams participate in the several leagues, including NWOYSL and also participate in several competitive tournaments each season.

FSC continues to evolve and change in order to meet the soccer needs of the Findlay area youth.  One of these changes is that the club has begun to hire professionally licensed coaches and trainers for many of the teams.  The intent is to provide the youth playing on the competitive teams the opportunity to be exposed to coaches well versed and educated in the game, which hopefully will result in improving the abilities of the players.
